One of my favourite places and one of the most enchanting places which I have ever visited, is the location for the Glenville Mass Rock, at Chimneyfield. As a place for prayer or meditation, it is so perfect. Calmness and serenity prevails in a powerfully beautiful riparian setting. There is a feeling here that timelessness pervades. Access to this site is over a small bridge which spans the river.
The Mass Rock is a platform on the east side of river Bride with rock cliff rising behind. A white metal cross hangs suspended down the cliff face. A bilingual plaque has the following inscription: ‘Mass was said here in Penal times’. In recent years it has also been used for mass.
